Meet Nicolás Monreal Corera
Nicolás Monreal Corera
During the PhD, I will work on reconstituting the glycolytic pathway inside vesicles in a cell-free environment, in order to gain insight into how this pathway could be used by a synthetic cell to achieve a sustained and efficient energy production.
Hello! My name is Nicolás, and I am a PhD candidate in Prof. Matthias Heinemann’s group at the University of Groningen since 2025.
Originally from Spain, I completed my Bachelor’s in Chemistry at the University of Navarra (Spain), and then I moved to Groningen to study the Master’s in Nanoscience at the University of Groningen. During both my bachelor’s and master’s I got the opportunity to dive into molecular biology and biochemistry, and it was during my thesis that I carried out my first molecular biology project, where I learned about membrane protein purification.
During the PhD, I will work on reconstituting the glycolytic pathway inside vesicles in a cell-free environment, in order to gain insight into how this pathway could be used by a synthetic cell to achieve a sustained and efficient energy production.
