Loïck Moissonnier

My postdoctoral project aims to understand and improve membrane protein insertion in synthetic cells.

Hi my name is Loïck Moissonnier.
Originally from Lyon (France), I am a biochemist, passionate about understanding the structure-function relationship of membrane proteins. I completed my PhD in Molecular Microbiology and Structural Biochemistry, in the Drug Resistance and Membrane proteins team. I focused on the multidrug ABC transporter BmrA, where I combined enzymology, and time-resolved cryoEM to study its conformational dynamics under turnover conditions.

Now, I have joined the Membrane Enzymology group at the University of Groningen, in the lab of Prof. Bert Poolman and Prof. Dirk Slotboom, as part of the EVOFL consortium. My postdoctoral project aims to understand and improve membrane protein insertion in synthetic cells. I focus on identifying and characterizing minimal membrane protein insertion machineries compatible with the PURE system, to achieve robust and efficient insertion of transporters involved in synthetic metabolic pathways.

Outside of the lab, I am a creative person who enjoys drawing and painting, as well as cooking, swimming and reading. I believe that both art and science share the same curiosity-driven spirit: observing, interpreting, and creating new worlds from what we perceive.
