Hi, I’m Adam! I’m joining the EVOLF consortium as a Postdoc in the lab of Greg Bokinsky at TU Delft. I have a background in Biology from Leiden University, where I specialized in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology during my MSc. I did my PhD at Leiden University in the group of Ariane Briegel, focusing on developing RNA origami as intracellular tags in bacteria for cryo-electron microscopy. During this time, I combined molecular microbiology, advanced imaging, and computational analysis to study bacterial systems, and also worked on topics such as bacteriophage biology and high-throughput screening approaches. Earlier in my training, I also explored how membrane curvature influences protein localization in Vibrio cholerae, which sparked my interest in fundamental bacterial processes.
For my project, I will investigate how the membrane synthesis enzyme PlsB forms filaments in E. coli, and how this relates to the regulation of phospholipid production. Previous work suggests that filament formation may act as a mechanism for allosteric inhibition when membrane synthesis is in excess. By studying the structure of these filaments and identifying the interactions that drive their formation, I ultimately aim to better understand how cells control membrane growth and remodeling.
When I’m not doing experiments in the lab, I like to experiment in the kitchen (to mixed results)! Apart from that I like going for hikes, playing board games or simply having a drink with friends.
