The ultimate aim of the project is to provide a normative and robust conceptual framework distinguishing life from non-life.
Hello everyone,
My name is Nynke. I previously studied Philosophy and Biomedical Sciences (bachelor) and Philosophy and Brain and Cognitive Sciences (master) at the University of Amsterdam. My academic interests lie broadly in the philosophy of science and in how knowledge is construed - from epistemological, cognitive and social angles.
From March onwards I will be joining the department of Values, Technology and Innovation at the TU Delft as a PhD candidate under the co-supervision of Jeroen van Hoven, Lotte Asveld and James Hutton.
As part of the Responsible innovation and ethics group of EVOLF, I will be mapping out and critically engaging with various conceptualizations of (synthetic) life to arrive at novel insights on what distinguishes life from non-life and how to best describe (synthetic) living systems. The ultimate aim of the project is to provide a normative and robust conceptual framework distinguishing life from non-life.
In my research-adjacent time you can catch me singing as a mezzo-soprano at the Nationale Koren or at Bach Ensemble Amsterdam. To get moving I practice Aikido and Katori Shinto Ryu, after which I like to wind down with a cup of tea and more books.
